TV Shows: Game of Thrones: Season 7 Episode 1: "Dragonstone" Review

For the longest time, I debated whether or not I should review Game of Throne's season 7 on a by-episode basis, or if should do what I did last year and publish a mid-season and an end-of-season review. Well, as you might have gathered from the existence of this post, I decided to the former. I won't be giving each episode a star rating, but I will discuss, critique, and shallowly analyze the contents of each episode. I will try to be heedful of those who have not yet watched the episode discussed, and if I do discuss significant events, I will give a forewarning.

Episode synopsis:
First episodes of GoTs are usually subtle re-introductions to the show. I've gotten used to that and expected this episode to be no different. But, I felt like this episode was little too...preparatory. Nothing happened! I mean this is season 7, for god's sake. If this was a show that aired twenty episode per season, I would understand, because then we would have time for lengthy introductions. But, there are only seven episodes in season 7. Seven! Too much of the time allotted was spent on Ed Sheeran's cameo, which was very conspicuous, by the way. When I read that he would be making a guest appearance, I thought he was going to be an unassuming extra. Nope, the writers' felt we had to know his and his comrades' life stories and dreams! Speaking of guest appearances, Jim Broadbent's appearance was one of better parts of this episode. The Archmaester is no special character, but Jim Broadbent is the best and I was overjoyed. Also, Sandor Clegane aka The Hound, is my favorite character in GoT. I loved that he was a big part of the episode.

I'm a little bummed that Daenerys, who is arguably the most important character on GoT, appeared in the last four minutes of the episode. For the first episode of a supposedly action-packed (and short ) season, not much of anything happened really. As far as Game of Thrones season premieres go, I have to say, I'm a little disappointed.
